What are PRP Facials?

January 28, 2021 by SunCoast Optimal Wellness Leave a Comment

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a concentrate of platelet-rich plasma protein derived from whole blood and spun by centrifuge in our lab to remove red blood cells.  A PRP facial is a type of treatment where we take the PRP and apply it to the surface of your face. Once the PRP is applied, we use micro-needling to push the plasma back into your skin. The entire procedure takes place in our on-site facility.

This technique uses your plasma to rejuvenate your face by lessening hard lines and wrinkles to achieve an overall smoothing effect. The plasma found in your blood stimulates collagen growth and by using your own plasma, your body readily accepts it, since it does not view it as a foreign substance. This also means that you will not have any allergic reactions because your body is already used to it.

Like most facials, for the best results, you should have them done regularly, around every three to six months. This helps the results last longer and ensures that there’s no slowdown of collagen production. Plus, this procedure is relatively short with very minimal pain and discomfort, so coming back for your next facial is a breeze.

Most patients notice smoother skin within a few days of treatment. However, if you’re looking to address problem areas such as scarring and skin damage, you may need to book more treatments to see noticeable changes. Please reach out to our staff if you’re hoping to work on problem areas and they will be happy to advise you on when you should see results and how often you should have the treatment done.
